Candle Lit Winter Wedding At The Place They First Met…

When this loved-up pair chose Hillbark as the venue for their magical winter wedding it was ‘written in the stars’ as this was the place the met almost 10 years ago…

Two young people looking for part time work landed a couple of dream roles working at Wirral’s premier hotel. Both front of house, their eyes met over the breakfast room and that was it. Pete was smitten and Becki had found her Mr Right!

Fast forward twelve years and the couple were making their vows in the place that brought them together – Hillbark.

‘When Pete finished studying he got a job in Manchester so we moved away from the Wirral, but Hillbark always stayed close to our hearts,’ said Becki. ‘ We always visited when we were home and Lisa, Craig and the team became like an extension of our own family.’

The Proposal

‘I planned a bucket list trip to New York to celebrate Pete’s 30th and on the first night he got down on one knee in the middle of Times Square surrounded by all the lights and throngs of people and popped the question.’

Once the pair returned home the planning began. Obviously, the venue choice was never in doubt.’ It was lovely being on the other side and actually being the ones tying the knot having worked on so many weddings together, ‘said Pete. ‘Craig and Lisa were amazing and helped us plan the perfect day.’

The Wedding

As the couple were tying the knot just before Christmas they chose a glamorous winter wonderland theme with lots of crisp whites, subtle greys and oodles of sparkle. Florist Kelly Louise took charge of all the décor transforming the majestic Hillbark Great Hall into a twinkling wonderland complete with blossom trees, candelabra and tea lights lighting the way up the aisle.

‘So many people commented on how stunning the décor was,’ said Becki. ‘Kelly was absolutely brilliant and understood the brief perfectly. Although we had twelve months to plan I couldn’t have done it without my mum, my sister and my amazing friends. We had a WhatsApp group and I was sending them stuff every day and they were so patient and super-helpful.’

The Dress

‘I got my dress from Elegance in Bebington. Lisa and the girls were amazing and couldn’t do enough for me. The type of dress I originally was looking at was a long-sleeved lace dress but I ended up going with a strapless fishtail dress (Rebecca Ingram). I didn’t even look at it initially in the shop but Lisa pulled it out and told me to try it on – she really does know her stuff and can tell what style of dress suits a certain person & figure. I absolutely loved it! I went back many times for fittings and alterations, Lisa does this all herself in house and every visit was a total joy.

The Bridesmaids

‘I may be biased but my bridesmaids where the absolute best! I had my sister Nicky Kelly and 4 of my besties, Rhianne Byrne, Hayley Miah, Louisa Malam & Emma Littlewood. They wore gorgeous grey embellished long dresses from Quiz!! I would never have thought I would by my bridesmaid dresses from Quiz but they were lovely and so reasonably priced. Once again, so many people commented on how beautiful the bridesmaids looked – and they really did!’

The Boys

The boys looked perfect for the winter weather in navy suits with grey tweed waistcoats. We hired the suits from Slaters and they had a great selection,’ said Becki, ‘and they all looked so handsome (especially Peter!’).

The Suppliers

Flowers and Décor

The amazing Kelly Louise took care of all the flowers and full event décor for the day. Becki had a bouquet of stunning ivory roses and silver fern whilst the bridesmaids has delicate gypsophila poses which matched the theme perfectly

‘The fabulous Michael from Capture My Big Day was just spot on! Not only is he a fantastic photographer but such a lovely guy. Pete and I met with him a couple times before the big day and he just knew exactly what we wanted. We got our ‘first look’ photos just a week or so after the wedding then our full set of images a few weeks after that and we were both so delighted with them. Highly recommend!’

The Cake

‘We had a real show-stopper of a cake. A four tier white and silver creation from the amazing team at Delicious Cakes, Liverpool. Initially I struggled finding a cake I liked and then found Kate on Instagram and loved all the cakes she did, they were just beautiful! My mum and I had a tasting with her and ended up with a lemon, chocolate, sponge and fruit cake – it tasted absolutely gorgeous!’

With live entertainment from The Pedal Tones in the evening, night turned into day and the party went into full swing. ‘We couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day,’ said Becki. ‘Being back at the place we met, making the most magical memories ever it literally could not have been more perfect.’

All of us here at Wonderful Wirral Weddings wish Becki & Pete (aka Mr and Mrs Barrie) so much love and happiness for the future! Thanks for letting us cover your wonderful day.
