A Modern Day Romance

Long before Tinder had us swiping in every direction, Jody and Mike first made their connection through online dating. Initially separating as friends – “Mike was far too wild for me!” – the couple rekindled their connection after meeting in Manchester 6 years later and have been inseparable ever since…

We were lucky enough to take a peek inside this lovely couple’s summer nuptials at Cheshire’s stunning Merrydale Manor and safe to say, this pair of party animals don’t do things by halves!

The Venue

After dreams of an Italian wedding proved too complicated the couple explored a number of options, before a recommendation by a friend led them to the exquisite lakeside venue of Merrydale Manor. Was this fate? “We only had one Saturday we could do, which was the only Saturday they had free, it was fate. We simply had to book!”

The Theme

Avoiding a specific theme, Jody knew she had a vision for the big day: simple, stylish and traditional. Having initially wanted a church wedding, Jody was so enamoured with the breath-taking grandeur of the ceremony room at Merrydale any worries about not getting married in a church melted away. The couple chose crisp white flowers with a hint of warm blush, evocative of their warm, July wedding date.

The Wedding Fairy Godmothers

Jody and Mike put their faith in renowned Cheshire wedding and event planners Irlam Warburton Events, who used their years of expertise and precise attention to detail to deliver the couple’s dream day. With nothing but glowing praise for Irlam Warburton’s ‘dream team’, Georgie and Meghan, the talented planning duo pulled out all the stops for Jody and Mike, constantly on hand with exciting suggestions, clever recommendations and more than a sprinkle of creativity.

‘We were particularly thrilled with the girls’ recommendation for photography’, said Jody. ‘Richard Milnes was the ideal photographer for us. Unobtrusive, talented and with such a lovely manner – he felt like a very special guest by the end and captured the whole thing so perfectly.’

The wedding planning team also provided trusted recommendations for the crucial glam squad, tasked with enhancing the natural beauty of the bride and creating a look that would last all day long; “I had two fantastic girls for hair and makeup, Kirsty Stewart and Tammy Faye. They were absolutely amazing and I had so much fun getting ready with them.’

‘The décor, flowers and overall styling was just exquisite too. Georgie and Meghan totally understood what we wanted and really ‘got us’ as a couple too. We really can’t recommend them enough. They made the whole process an absolute joy.’

The Food

When catering for their guests, the couple were set on traditional food that lived up to expectations – “we wanted proper food, done right”. Merrydale’s in-house caterers Barrett’s did not disappoint. Both the couple and their guests were clearly thrilled with the culinary delights on offer with many commenting that the food was amongst the best they’d ever tasted at a wedding.

The Guys & Gals

Jody’s sister Adele was the vice-captain of Team Bride as Maid of Honour, with daughter Darcey and niece Emaline as the perfect flower girls. Adele and the adorable flower girls were dressed in stunning J&J Designs gowns, from Newcastle Under Lyme. Mike and his band of groomsmen were every inch the dapper gents in suits and shoes from Whitfield and Ward in Wilmslow.

The Dress

After an intensive search far and wide for her dream dress, Jody found the one right under her nose, in Knutsford Wedding Gallery on her local high street. Keen to put her individual stylistic touches to the gown Jody had a number of stunning alterations made to suit her vision for the day. Intricate lace sleeves were added as well as a subtle trim of lace climbing up to the neck of the gown. Jody also had the lace removed to leave a simple and classic skirt, balancing the beautiful lace detail at the top and gently grazing the divine ivory satin Manolo Blahnik’s that helped Jody glide up the aisle in style.

The Entertainment

Entertainment was an integral part of Mike and Jody’s vision for their day – “we wanted a very traditional, classy wedding and then a massive wild party!” Achieving this balance perfectly was an elegant string quartet and not one but TWO bands to party the evening away with! Having spotted the London Essentials years before Mike and Jody knew they really were the ‘essential’ ingredient to get the party started during their reception drinks and wedding breakfast – “We always said if we get married that’s who we want – they are out of this world”. Next in the stellar line up were the incredible Brothers of Soul who almost blew the roof off the venue with the stratospheric party they provided for the couple’s friends and family: “Talk about knowing how to party, our friends are still talking about our bands now and between them they absolutely made our day!” The perfect combination for Mike and Jody’s wild reception? Jäger bombs as palate cleansers between courses, breakdancing and hoisting the band up on their shoulders for an epic guitar solo to remember of course! These guys really know how to party and we just love it!

The Honeymoon

After such a wild night the couple braced themselves for an early start the next morning, jetting straight to the serene, postcard perfect island of Mykonos for their honeymoon. With neither of the couple having visited the island before, and having a week of child-free paradise it didn’t take long before they were exploring the island’s whitewashed streets adorned with beautiful shops, beautiful restaurants and even more beautiful people! Continuing the simple and stylish feel of their nuptials the couple spent their honeymoon recuperating in the private pool of the Myconian Ambassador’s Thalassa suite: “It was just perfect. What a way to round off our magical marriage at Merrydale.’
