Victoria and Mike’s Fabulous Thornton Hall Wedding

Meet Vicki and Mike. A gorgeous couple who wanted a day that was all about family, friends and celebrating in style…

Vicki is a well-known face in West Wirral – mainly because she has been looking after guests for many years in her role as manager of Heswall’s much loved 107 restaurant. Hard working and with little time for socialising, it was actually one of her waitresses, Hannah who set her up on a date with her brother Mike and the rest, as they say, is history!

So how did he propose?

‘I usually work every Christmas Day,’ said Vicki ‘One of the things you get used to when you work in hospitality! But I managed to get Christmas Day 2015 off and that is when he surprised me. I came down in the morning and he popped the question! What made it even more special is he did it in the style of one of my favourite films, ‘Love Actually’ – he had made big cards with romantic things on! The last one said to check the tree and the ring was hanging from one of the branches. When I turned around he was down on one knee. It was such a special day as we were able to see all of our families and break the happy news with lots of champagne of course.’

The Venue

As family was always at the heart of the wedding, the couple chose the gorgeous Thornton Hall Hotel for their big day. ‘We wanted somewhere that was accessible for everyone but also somewhere that we knew would do a good job,’ said Vicki. ‘We had been to a few weddings at Thornton Hall and they were all so lovely we knew we would have a great day and the surroundings are stunning so the perfect backdrop really.’

The couple chose a traditional wedding breakfast style feast with homemade butternut squash and mozzarella soup followed by succulent chicken breast. ‘I had personalised cupcakes made for the dessert, ‘said Vicki. ‘They looked so cute and tasted wonderful.’

They opted for a classic theme with white and grey décor and silver accessories for a modern twist.

‘Vicki from Sapphire Events worked wonders on the room. It was really classy with some lovely contemporary touches – just as I had imagined it.’

The Dress

Vicki wore a stunning Ronald Joyce gown from Brides by Tina Louise. ‘I knew I wanted something fitted and detailed, ‘said Vicki. ‘Natalia and the girls at Tina Louise were amazing – they really understood my vision and helped me chose the perfect dress. I loved the embellishments and beading. I really was my dream dress.’

The Bridesmaids

‘I always knew 100% I would have my sister, sister-in-law and step sister, ‘ said Vicki, ‘ But when it came to it I couldn’t imagine nit having my three best friends too so I ended up with six and I wouldn’t have it any other way. They all looked gorgeous. There were nine of us to get ready in the morning so our hair and make-up team ( Carol Ellis Thompson, Hair & Charlotte Penkith & Jessica Merruitia Make-Up) worked absolute wonders. I knew I wanted a glamorous look so my lashes by Amanda Ulyat and Nails by Stephanie Penketh really added that final touch.’

The Boys

All looked dapper in their classic navy blue suits from Slaters in Liverpool.

The Photos

‘We were so pleased with our photographs, ‘said Vicki. ‘John from Studio 900 was just amazing. He made everyone feel so comfortable and made the whole process so much fun. I think that’s why we ended up getting such great shots. I can’t recommend him enough.’

The Reception

Music and entertainment played a huge part in the couple’s big day. From Jo Pue-Richards playing the violin as Vicki walked down the aisle to Any Bayley, ‘The Original Swing King’ playing during the wedding breakfast to a full hit party set from local band ‘Tequila’ and tunes from Sophia Sax in the evening – the dance floor was rocking all night long and the couple really got the party atmosphere they wanted from start to finish.

As night fell the couple and their guests set the night alight with sparklers and a rousing rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’ – Mike’s family’s favourite tune and then everyone danced the night away until 2am!

‘It was just magical, ‘ said Vicki. ‘ I’m so used to planning other people’s events and celebrations at work it was just lovely to see everything come together and be exactly the day we wanted.’

As the couple jetted off to the Maldives and Dubai for their honeymoon they knew they could not have had a more perfect day with their friends, family and loved-ones. A match made in heaven? We think so…
